Astrology
Millions of people read their daily horoscopes to find out what their day has in store for them. Sometimes the prediction can be frighteningly accurate. Sometimes it’s way off the mark. The science of astrology isn’t perfect, but it has been around for thousands of years, almost as long as man himself. It was practiced by the ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and Chinese, and it is still practiced today.
What Is Astrology?
Astrology is the study of cosmic events, heavenly cycles, and celestial bodies as they relate to a person’s affairs, personality, compatibility with others, and general everyday happenings. It is a form of divination – or seeing the future – and while some scientists consider astrology to be superstition since there is no scientific evidence to support the claims that it is a science, people all over the world believe deeply in the practice.
Humankind has been looking to the stars for inspiration and guidance since before recorded history. Men and women known as seers in the ancient times were some of the first to notice and record similarities between the movement of the stars in the sky and what was happening to humans on Earth. The connection between life on earth and what was going on in the heavens above was believed to be a holistic type of relationship.
Many famous people throughout history have believed in and supported astrology in some form or another. Carl Jung, a psychologist, validated the idea of astrology in his work with depth psychology. Galileo, a well known inventor and scientist, was also an astrologer. While maybe not a good tool for prediction of the future, astrology is definitely a good tool to use to gain insight into a person and the mysteries surrounding their own unique existence.
